When the raft was washed up on the beach of  Hong Bay, its solitary
occupant came quickly  to the notice of Yellowthread Street  police
station.  A skeleton sporting a hole in its skull and  accompanied by a
dead fish, sweet potatoes, a  set of false teeth and a hunk of drainpipe
was —  weird even by the standards of Detective Chief  Inspector Harry
Feiffer.  An astute bit of checking with a dental  mechanic identified
the corpse as an  American called Putnam. The pathologist  came up with
the date of death and it was  twenty years ago. Long time for a guy  to
ride a raft...
Skulduggery  Born in Sydney, Australia, William Marshall was educated  at the Australian National University, Canberra. He has  worked as a journalist, teacher, proofreader, mortuary  attendant and process worker, living in England, Belgium,  - Switzerland and Wales. In addition to Yellowthread Street,  The Hatchet Man, Gelignite and Thin Air, all available in  _ Pan, he has published other novels and has contributed to  many magazines. He has also written a number of radio and  stage plays. He now lives in Ireland.
