Contemporary Ergonomics 2003

Proceedings of an annual international conference held in Edinburgh, UK, in April, 2003, for ergonomists and human factors specialists. Ninety-four contributions are organized into sections on manual handling; musculoskeletal disorders; occupational safety and health; slips, trips, and falls; fatigue; display screen equipment; vision; applied physiology; interface design; air traffic control; driving; rail; motorcycle ergonomics; design; risks and hazards; human error; training; and general ergonomics. A sampling of topics: development of manual handling assessment charts for health and safety inspectors, implications of recent decisions by the Court of Appeal on stress in the workplace, how to handle notebook input devices, cultural differences in the meaning of competency in air traffic control, and teaching ergonomics to 4 to 6 years olds.
